Snow Valley Peak  Sucess!

Loop hike up the TRT, down North Canyon. Lots of smoke from CA wildfires, could barely see Lake Tahoe and couldn't see the far side mountains at all. 7th NV CoHP.

Dayhike  Sucess!

Staying with my parents and working from Tahoe for the week. Drove over to 50 after work was done and found the TRT trailhead. This is probably the easiest 2,500’ climb you will ever find, The only thing that could be called steep would be the cross country on the very final stretch to the peak. Ran into 6 or so TRT solo thru-hikers, 3 of them finishing today! A year ago I was nearing the end of my first thru-hike on the JMT, felt nostalgic talking to them. With a baby on the way in December I can’t see any thru-hiking in my near future, but I sure can’t wait until I get a chance to experience that again.

From Spooner Summit TH  Sucess!

#1 5-28-17 W/ Yadahzoe via the TRT for the first 2.5 miles. Then it was "find your way" because snow obscured the trail. Head north, young man! Set GPS waypoints. We found the peak after much up and down, the use of crampons for traction on the steeper snow slopes and following bear tracks for several yards at one point. Too bad that all of the communications towers and buildings have to be right at the summit. A nice summit register was protected by several cinder blocks but there was no pen or pencil in the jar with the book. What spectacular views on our bluebird day. We were almost 5 1/2 hours to the summit because of our losing the trail and having to route find. But it was enjoyable fun because of the pleasant weather. We'd like to take the TRT when there is no snow.

After 8738, 8208, and 8205 from Spooner Lake  Sucess!

https://goo.gl/photos/n2BHLVF2SXrDv5L19

Long snowshoe from Spooner Lake TH with Mason between storms. Snowed a few inches overnight & we saved Snow Valley Peak for evening in hopes of clearing views. Peak 8738 came first and was enshrouded. Views opened up in late afternoon, making Snow Valley Peak a grand, but wind chilled vista when we finally reached it after tagging far flung 8208 & 8205 to the northeast. Tagged Herlan & Marlette the next day with better views of Lake Tahoe and Marlette Lake.

North Canyon bike and hike  Sucess!

Parked at Spooner Lake State Park ($10 self-pay now but you can park outside and ride in and pay $2 per bike.)

Biked North Canyon Road 4 miles to the locked gate, stashed bike and hiked a mile and a half to the peak. Great downhill ride on the way out.

From Lake Tahoe  Sucess!

Started across from Tahoe at the Chimney Beach parking area. I believe the trail is Marlette Creek Trail. Over the ridge down to the south end of Marlette Lake and then up the road to the summit. Some now left, windy as all hell, nice views of Tahoe.

snow valley peak  Sucess!

one of the peaks i hike every year, usually the first and last climb of the season, due to snow coverage-first to melt, last to accumulate. on of my favorites.

From Ash Canyon Carson City  Sucess!

Hiked from Ash Canyon trailhead to Ash Canyon summit/ridge onward thru Lake Tahoe State Park thru Snow Valley and up to Snow Valley Peak. Very windy day and winds were torturous above 8500ft. Very nice hike took 6hrs 20 mins to complete 17 1/2 miles up and down. Saw mountain lion from about 400 yards and he/she bolted in a flash. Also saw 2 coyotes and 2 herds of deer. Great day.
