Snowplant

Snowplant

This unique flower is a flowering plant but acts more like a mushroom, feeding off of dead and decaying vegetation underground. It is in the Heath Family and blooms soon after the snow melts, hence its name. Photographed in the Domeland Wilderness, Sequoia National Forest, CA. June 2005.
