You are right. I looked up in Guido Rey’s ”The Matterhorn” where you can read about principal measurements from 1877:
Col du Lion 3610m
Tyndall’s stone man 4260m
Shoulder 4273m
Summit 4505m

Earlier De Saussure had made the height 4522m. Later the Dufour map gave 4482m.
