Ridge Runner  Sucess!

Hiked up the Saint Mary's Pass Trail to Stanislaus Peak, then followed ridge, hitting all the high points to Sonora Peak, then down the PCT to the highway and back to where I started.

Combo with Stanislaus Peak  Sucess!

Did the Sonora/Stanislaus double - Stanislaus was a bit tougher. Lots of loose scree which would frequently slide making the ascent a little tougher.

With Stanislaus  Sucess!

Basically no snow this year. Pretty easy. Stanislaus was next.

S Ridge / PCT  Sucess!

2h car-to-car. Easy peak, nice views of course. A little loose on the way up, but heaven riding the scree on the way down!

St. Mary's Pass TH  Sucess!

Finding snow almost everywhere except for the summit ridge made for a scenic hike and eased a steep shortcut on the way down. The snow was not very deep in most areas and I usually only sunk an inch into it, even in the afternoon. I suspect there ought to be lots of mud and skeeters soon, followed by a long summer.

St Mary's Pass TH  Sucess!

Super smoky day from fires, but a good climb nevertheless. Planned on Stanislaus too, but the smoke was too thick and had trouble breathing.

Butt Kicked by Snowy Sonora  Sucess!

Lots and LOTS of snow, of various temprements (firm, posthole-y and ridged)from St. Mary's pass sign (Trailhead parking still had 3 feet of snow). But after a lot of snow , summited the clear gravelly peak. I have the 'Snow burn' to prove it. Wish I knew how to snow shoe.

Via St. Mary Pass   Sucess!

Very windy on the hike up. Felt almost blown away a few times (was very light at the time and I was barely 5ft... >:) Didn't do Stanislaus Peak - it looked so cool... well, some other time.

Ritter warm-up.  Sucess!

Climbed as a warm-up before doing a 3 day trip to climb Mount Ritter. Always wanted to do this with Stanislaus which looks very appealing. County Summit #13.

Via St. Mary Pass  Sucess!

Started the climb via St. Mary's pass at 12:30pm. Some thunderheads developing. When approaching the summit, some drizzling rain, decently sized thunderhead above, and distant sounds of thunder. At the top, static electricity buzzing in my camera and hiking poles. Let's say I spent about only 10 seconds on the summit.

Sonora Pass fun  Sucess!

Sonora Peak was my first peak in the area. I hiked up it from the pass and I was really blown away by the view. I remember Stanislaus Peak as being really cool to look at. I remember fishing on the Walker River on the drive down, and it was a long drive back to Auburn. It was in the early 1990's that I lived in the area.

Easy Access  Sucess!

Climbed this one several times. Amazing views with easy access via the Saint Mary's Pass trail. I used this peak to introduce my young sons to the joys of peakbagging.

From Sonora Pass  Sucess!

(October 2008) Heavy winds most of the way up. Nice view from the top.

(July 2011) From St. Mary's Pass. Leading up to the pass is mostly under snow, but the ridge is mostly open. Onto Stanislaus afterwards.

Sonora/Stanislaus Combo  Sucess!

Climbed Sonora via PCT and southwest slopes. Steep scree slope. Stayed near trees to allow for more stable footing. Continued to Stanislaus Peak. Good Class Two climbing for the last 100ft.
Several springs nearby for water supply even in late August.
