| My dog(Ginger) and I did this on the way to Stanislaus. Nice short hike. We made it to about 500 feet of the summit of Stanislaus when the thunder and lighting started to get crazy. I will go back and get Stanislaus in Sept and start early. | ||

| 3rd time up this route, much different conditions. 50% snow coverage the entire way, with drifts up to 5ft deep. More snow than I've ever seen this time of year, parking lot still snowed in. Beautiful sunrise. | ||

| Very nice mountain that isn't very hard. It's a perfect early-season warm-up climb, especially when covered with snow. The views are outstanding, spanning from Round Top to the White Mountains, Ritter and Banner, and Lyell. | ||

| I use this summit as a training peak for future hikes. I try to do this one at least once a year from either trialheads. I also try to introduce people to peakbagging with this peak.. | ||

| Nice day hike from Saint Marys Pass. Didn't see a single person until back at the car. Great conditions - just a little snow here and there - otherwise a fine use trail all the way to the top. Quite windy on the final ridge / summit. | ||

| Don't know if I'd drive from Sac the morning of to do this again (at least w/o doing any of the neighboring peaks as well), but it was still a hoot. Leaving the TH @ 15.06, we adopted a leisurely pace. The wildflowers we saw en route were amazing- seemingly everywhere, & all colors of the rainbow! The views of the peaks around there (esp. the northern Yosemite mountains, as well as the funky volcanic ones particular to that region of the Sierra) were great. Too bad we didn't have more time to bag some more peaks... Summited @ 17.04. We enjoyed some chips and beer on top, & got in some quality summit time. Taking off @ 18.21, we enjoyed amazing views of Leavitt Peak basking in the rays of the setting sun, & saw some deer. Reached the TH @ 19.58. Another great day in the Sierra! | ||

| A beautiful day. Started about 11am, took my time and summited about 1:30. I felt like a mountain goat he last 600 ft or so, pretty steep. I finished up as a few thuderheads were building nearby. A great half day hike to reach a peak. | ||

| Awesome views from the top. The day was super clear. I could see all the way to Mt. Diablo (very, very distant). There was still a fair amount of snow to the south into Yosemite and on Leavitt Peak. Conditions on the approach were summer like. Scree, scree and more scree. Not a single skeeter!! Solo. | ||

| A beautiful day in a beautiful area. We had the whole mountain to ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed the perfect weather we were gifted. A little snow but the trail was mostly snow free. | ||

| Beautiful clear day, but very windy up on the high ridges and at the summit. I saw nobody else on the mountain above St. Mary's Pass. Still lots of snow cover in most places, which made for very easy walking with crampons and trekking poles. Descended the southeast ridge for about 1/2 mile, then turned right and came straight down the mountainside. | ||

| Saw this peak was listed as a must-do for "peak bagging neophytes" plus it's the county high point for Alpine county, so I had to get busy. Sonora Pass was closed, adding a "scenic" 4 mile walk up 108 (I like to call it the Great Nation of RGreene's Highway 108 because that road was all mine!) in near white out conditions. Thanks CA weather for breaking this particular weekend. Camped at some trailhead just west of the pass (trailhead sign was buried under snow), did a "long" (4 hours) route involving no topo's and no GPS waypoints -- just line of sight to the highest peak, and requiring crampons (for the entire trip) and ice axe (for a traverse across a paticularly steep face). Weather was brutal -- high winds and super cold (my water bottles haven't melted yet after the 7 hour drive home) but crystal clear after the night of infamy. Not much snow to posthole in, it was all windswept and icy. Anyway, got to the top, enjoyed the gunnery seargent nest, tried to dig out the summit register in the 4 feet of snow inside the nest, gave up because I was about to get frostbite, and took 30 minutes to get back to the trailhead. CA COHP #19. | ||

| Less snow than I expected given the late snowfall this year. I climbed up to the peak and then hit every bump on the ridge between it and Stanislaus. Excellent views of mountains that were unfamiliar to me at the time. | ||

| A nice hike with a great view. The hike can be shortened by more than a mile by not follwing the PCT. Take the obvious use trail north (up the ridge) from the parking lot. There is a steep 200-300 foot loose slope climbing past the obvious rock outcrops before meeting the PCT. Cross the PCT and continue up the ridge on the normal route. | ||

| Another beautiful day on top. Had the pleasure of sharing it with my Mom. Snow still covers much of the Yosemite High Country. Only a few patches of snow on the hike up, nothing that couldn't be bypassed. | ||

| This hike is nice and short, and surprisingly not too heavily traveled from St Mary's pass. If you are looking for a shorter peak with a good view, but without the people, this is one of your best bets. For something a little bit harder, try Leavitt Peak just to the South across 108. | ||
