| Well, like I said, timing is key. An early start is neccesary for this route, like 2 a.m. That was the time when we started from Maroon lake, but I would recommend camping at Crater lake for an even better start. This northern chute is pretty scary in the sun. Some move are quite dangerous due to the discontentious snow. Beware of snow holes, about 3/4 of the way up I plunged into a snow hole up to my shoulders and still didnt tough the ground. Also be very awary of the waterfall up high, it melts a deep say 7 foot channel that winds down the couloir for a good few hundred feet! This is very dangerous to cross. But when you top out on the ridge and you look at the valley floor, you will be proud! |
