I've come to look again. How I really want to be there. In the book I am trying to finish, I talk a lot about the moment of arriving at such a summit. Maybe I have defined the elixir that kept me so young. In essence, I feel freedom, detachment, contentment. The mountains give that elixir which I can carry back inside me. But it does not last forever - only that, one remembers it. Hence one must always return in order to refill the elixir bottle.
"Life is brought down to the basics: if you are warm, regular, healthy, not thirsty or hungry, then you are not on a mountain... Climbing at altitude is like hitting your head against a brick wall — it's great when you stop."
