Great solo climb. Went up the Bear Creek side and down the middle fork. LOTS of bear tracks on the middle fork side.

The loop hike up and over Helmet Saddle and down the other side - including an ascent of Sphinx Mountain - is one of the greatest possible day hikes known to mankind.

From the views of the Madison Valley, to the saddle connected to the Helmet, this hike was all smiles. Good hiking buddy, fun snowfield to cross at the top ... weather was stellar. Knife edge southern exposure towards top was sketchy but fun

Last good weekend of 2010. Beautiful day, could see as far as the Tetons to the south and Pilot Peak to the east.

Climbed and skied the west face. It's a sad day when the best turns are wind-blasted ice...

Epic day without many clouds. One of the most memorable scrambles from this past summer.

Great snow climb, went up the gully and ridge just South of it to the summit ridge, then down to Helmet saddle and out. Saw a griz in the lower meadow.

The first peak that I ever tagged. While in the gully, a small runoff creek slowly formed as we hiked, which was apparently a daily routine. Such a neat occurence and a really beautiful hike.

What a great summit. Gain the saddle on a Friday night, camp out. Wake up, make some coffee, summit an hour or two later, leave, hike out the loop down Bear Creek and be home in the evening. Views are great, summit is nice. Get out there and bag it!

This was a nice hike to the top. Nothing too difficult, but worth the effort. We camped at the saddle and had a gorgeous view of the stars and the night sky.

My buddy Dave and I climbed the peak via the northwest ridge. A good hike, summited in about four hours with whiteout conditions. The whiteout gave it a very surreal feeling.

Somewhat easier than I expected. The Helmet is a very impressive formation. Maybe another day...

Epic alpine route on a huge north face. Only took something like 5 tries to hit the right conditions...

Climbed this peak along with the Helmet. Better views from the Sphinx, but more exciting climbing on the Helmet.

Thanks to low snow conditions and fat ice, Garrett Stevens and I managed to climb the complete North Face via the Lowe Direct. It's an incredible route when it's in. Be careful on the approach - I kicked off a small slab avalanche and took a ride before I managed to jump off the moving slab.

Looking for early season ice on the north face. Nothing there, so we hiked to the summit. Second time hauling my ice gear up there for nothing.

See iceaxeman's post. Enjoyed the company, this took us about 5 1/4 hours up, but we had packs.

Climbed with (3) SP'ers (Freespirit, Rollinred, & Steve Ball). Set-up camp at the saddle, then headed for the summit. Reached the summit at 4:00 p.m., hung around for a few mintues, then made a mad dash for camp before dark hit. Then we enjoyed some hot choclate and star gazing. Once again I had a great time in the Montana mountains.
