Almost killed my whole family
Started driving up the mountain with wife and kid...some slush...then some snow in areas...but I wanted the highpoint ...kept driving about half way up and was on a pretty treacherous stretch when it started getting a little slippery and I got very scared about getting back down without sliding. I had to austim powers the car around and SLOWLY go back down. Good lesson to never get myself in that situation again!
Third state high point for the day, and 29th overall. Require a few buzzards near the summit

Spruce Knob
Had a spirited drive up the road to the top, with great weather and views from the lookout tower.

Enjoyed the drive up to the top and surprisingly had the top to ourselves.
Could only see a couple feet in front of us since clouds settled on the top but it was still an amazing experience. Would love to visit this area again someday after the other 42 states are complete!
By this time the weather had cleared and I had a nice beautiful little long-ish hike.
Lots of folks at the summit, not as many on the trail. Lovely views, lingered at the tower for a little while.
This is probably my favorite highpoint in the region.

Bad weather
Hiked the .4 km path to the summit, snowstorm and strong winds at the top. I can imagine the views would be great in better weather. It is odd to me that the road goes parallel to potential 'real' hiking routes to the summit, making a trail of a few miles to the peak feasible, but the only trail to the summit is 20 miles roundtrip I think. Too bad.

Midnight Winter Summit
Parked on FR 112 coming from the east about 4-5 miles from the summit. Cousin and I hiked into the woods off the road and navigated to the top with the full moon as our flashlight. My compass skills came into question numerous times but we made it.

Winter Hike
The road is not maintained in winter and there was about 1' on the ground drove up the East side of the mountain on Forest RD 112. Parked at a pull off 5.5 miles from the summit, hiked to the summit then took the Huckleberry trail to Seneca creek trail then took the auto road back to the car.
The original plans was to hike Seneca creek to huckleberry and descend the auto road to the truck but the truck didn't make it over the mountain to the west side and I still felt like hiking from the base of the mountain which made for a long day being that I had to break trail anytime I was off the road. If you try a winter ascent don't plan on crossing over the mountain if there's snow on the ground and approach from the west side. Ended up around 18 miles of hiking

Headed out to West Virginia from Eastern Maryland early in the morning for a long day of high pointing that started with Spruce Knob. Dad and I wandered around a bit, even found makeshift seating with boulders that reminded us of the Flintstones! We were lucky and were out there AFTER the rains, so cool weather and relatively minimal mud!

nice hike
Seneca to Judy to Huckleberry. Started far too late (3 pm) and had to burn some muscle to make time. Paid for it at the end as the trip down actually took longer than the trip up (3 hrs up, 3.5 hrs down). Finished in the dark. The mountain meadow connector was the steepest and most beautiful part.

We elected not to do a long hike up the summit in order to save time to do some climbing on Seneca Rocks. None the less, we did some hiking on the trails around the summit. The weather was not very good, but once it cleared up a bit, the view was nice. They keep the area very nice. Unfortunately we found that someone has removed the bench mark. Now all that is left is a circular patch of concrete, and the rod it was once connected to.
It was a very hot day at the top of West Virginia. Had a picnic at one of the nearby tables. There wasn't a lot of shade but we found some. After lunch we strolled over to the observation summit to take in the views.
There was snow the night before and the summit road wasn't plowed all the way. So, we parked up to the plowed area and hiked up. A young couple drove up past us and got stuck. And two other pick-up trucks higher up were stuck too. Beautiful views on the nearby Whispering Spruce trail. Very windy in the summit area. HP#24.

Totally socked in with fog and clouds but it made it that much more of an experience too. Really cool place though with some great examples of krummholz.

Muddy mess
The lumberjack trail was muddy and a little annoying, Huckleberry was a nice stroll. The connector was the only real elevation gain. Nice and easy, and a decent tower on top.

Tower views
We decided to hike up the Lumberjack/huckleberry trail up 8 miles, since this was the only real hiking of our 5 HP trip through the Mid Atlantic. No real views on the way up the trail, except for the tower at the summit of course. Great weather day, no clouds. State HP #16 for me.

Ninth HP on a 3 week road trip thru 17 states. Road was snowed over so had to hike the last 1 mile. Afterwards drove over to Backbone Mtn for sunset. Seneca Rocks were stunning.
