A Place Worth Revisiting  Sucess!

It was foggy at the top, but it was fun to get to. Seneca Rock was very beautiful. We will return here.

Pretty West Virginia  Sucess!

The summit was crowded, but it did afford some nice views. West Virginia surprised us. It was a lot more interesting and pretty than we ever expected. Nice!

On the Allegheny trifect trip with my family, Spruce Knob was number 20 of Vanessa and my 49 state high points, number 8 for Hillary and Holly.

Easy drive-up with lots of parking...I wonder if those lots ever fill up?

HP #15  Sucess!

Views were amazing for late June! From the tower there isn't much to see but the short trail around the summit was very enjoyable.

Highpoint #5  Sucess!

Third highpoint in one day along with PN and MD. About 12-18 inches of snow on the peak along with high winds and 23 degrees temps made the drive up and the sprint to the tower a little challenging but It was a beautiful winter wonderland.

Spruce Knob

Not much of a challenge when you pretty much drive right up to the top. A very nice view though with a decent tower. My daughter loved the boulder area slightly below the summit.

Drive Up  Sucess!

This was the first of three state highpoints for the day. Maybe it was the early hour but I was the only one there. It is or was a surprisingly undeveloped in the area. Good views from the tower.

HP #6  Sucess!

I (with my wife (Tracy) and son (Alex), then almost 2 yrs old) did this as part of our first family HP trip.

It was late in the day and we arrived at the top (driving, of course) at sunset. I recommend this - it was beautiful. There was a photographer there, too, capturing the sunset.

Very Nice HP!!!  Sucess!

I was anticipating a big hike up the mountain to Spruce Knob, due to road construction which was supposed to start the day before at the Intersection of FR-104 & FR-112. To my surprise, and delight, construction was delayed and I was able to park at the actual parking lot. The view from this highpoint is spectacular. This was the first of seven HPs (plus Washington, D.C.) I would reach in two days' time. HP #25 for me!!! Halfway there!!!

A walk from the parking lot to HP #12  Sucess!

Last of 3 highpoints in 24 hours. Drove to the area from NYC the night before and was able to hit Mt. Davis before nightfall. Got up early and made it to Backbone and Spruce Knob the by the next afternoon. Great trip, amazing countryside everywhere. Not too hard on my legs, I have to give my truck the majority of the credit for surving it all.

HP #11 Drive up, 2nd HP of the day  Sucess!

Drove up to this highpoint with my wife after reaching the top of Maryland just a bit earlier. Prettiest views I have seen from the East Coast mountains so far, although I know there are better ones coming. Beautiful drive to the top though. Whispering Spruce trail is definately worth the 5-10 minute stroll. The views from the trail are better than from the tower.

Stroll from the trailhead  Sucess!

The brutal 900 foot hike from the parking lot up top. Did this at the end of a 30-mile hiking weekend so I didn't feel too guilty.

Drove up for a cloudy and windy sunrise. Just as the sun came up the snow started to fall.

Nice  Sucess!

Made the summit on Feb 9th, 2008, on a cold and windy day. I could not find the USGS marker. I did find a hole I thought it once sat in. Shame.
