Staring the Cobra

Staring the Cobra

I was feeling super psyced and really strong, but at this point I was a little scared. One poorly placed peice was all I had and I was above groundfall potential at this point. Not the best rock quality either. Larissa cheered me on even though I knew she was not too happy about the situation. Oct, 2007.

Re: How did you..

Twas a bitch, and almost as scary as climbing that high in the first place. No other way though, I could not have even left gear behind since it would not have held at all! Good practice for free-soloing I guess.

Re: How did you..

Dan - would slinging the neck of this thing (guess a bit above your head in this photo) provide the mental comfort needed to pull it off? Or is that too low anyway by the tie you're into the crux?

Re: How did you..

I have heard of people doing this, and quite frankly it did not even cross my mind. I would definately provide a much safer option and mental comfort for pulling the move, although if you were to blow while clipping you would still take a 10 foot fall or so and probably hit some rock on the way down. Who knows how stable that neck is! If I were to do this again, this would be the route I would want to take and I recomend this to others as well.
