Hiked to Step Mountain and then continued to Black Ridge. It seemed like an appropriate name because much of the area to the south had been burned by fires.
We originally tried bushwhacking up to it from a neigborhood to the northeast, but after further inspection (and discovery of this page) we made it up the easier way by Step Mountain Road a week later. Fun little scramble up at the top.
This was a fun like hike and is easy to do in winter when there isn't a ton of snow in the valley. Great views on top, and a really fascinating formation. Never seen anything like it.
This is a crazy cool little summit. The structure of the blocks of rock - just really cool. I spooked a family of Mule Deer as soon as I got out of my car. I was a little worried about rattlers, but just watched my step. Neat little peak!
