Sterling Pond and Madonna Peak

Sterling Pond and Madonna Peak

Madonna Peak is the highest point along this ridge, to the far left on the ridge. Sterling Pond is a pretty little waterhole high up in the Sterling Range. The Sterling Range, of which Madonna Peak is a part of, is on the other side of Smuggler's Notch from Mt Mansfield. The three main peaks of this range are Spruce Peak, Madonna Peak, and Whiteface Mtn. This was day 22 of 28 on the Long Trail. (July 16, 2007)

sterling!

Sterling literally means highest in quality. It is a fitting name for such a beautiful place. Your picture brings out the beauty and I hope you don't mind that I used it for my computer wallpaper for a few days. We also have a Sterling, Colorado, but it is nothing like your Sterling Pond.

Re: sterling!

Thanks Larry! I did not know that is what Sterling meant. It is a great place, on the other side of Smuggler's Notch from Mt. Mansfield. A beautiful spot on a great day. And I don't mind at all, but I don't why you would use it when you have some exceptional photos that you have taken. Enjoy Colorado and I hope to visit it some in the future.
