6/8/2017 --- Stone Mountain: Georgia --- 1683’
Bree and I made a quick trek up Stone Mountain today. The best thing about it was…..this was the first time summiting this mountain for the both of us!!!! I really can’t believe that neither of us have done it until now. Oh well, better late than never.
o 1.23 miles each way
o Begin at 1025’ and summit at 1686’
o 600’ of elevation gain

Despite the crowds, this is still a fun little hike. We did this in the evening and saw a beautiful sunset go down past the Atlanta skyline.

This was a lot of fun! Pretty unique giant stone mountain in Georgia. The views were really nice.

Picked a beautiful day to climb to the summit of Stone Mountain.
We're just starting out with our summit-collecting, so this was a great first challenge. :)

Short hike to the top made somewhat more interesting by carrying two laptops up in my backpack. Great views of Atlanta if somewhat hazy. The hidden treasure of Stone Mountain Park are the rivers and associated hiking trails on the drive in which I also visited. Some of those secluded hikes are well worth the trip and remind you of what the South was like before cars, roads and buildings.

Hahah didn't know this would be listed on here ... my college T&F team took our spring break spring this year to Atlanta, and this was one of our side activities. Scenic, fun

cable car to the top was surprised to see the Atlanta skyline to be divided between Atlanta to the south and Buckhead farther north.

Yes, it has been commercialized, but I would consider this a must see if you are in Atlanta. My wife and I hiked to the top and it is an incredible formation despite the development. The surrounding parks are also worth seeing and provide room for recreation for the local residents.

Can't remember the exact date but I went up it twice in June of 2003. It was pretty hot but a great time to get out of the city; I was in Atlanta for 5 weeks (business). Didn't even realize this was on summitpost :)

Although it is a nice break from Atlanta, the heated building on the summit quickly reminds you where you are. I would climb it more often if it didn't cost $8 to get in the park. Kennessaw Mountain is just as good for training, and easier on your joints.

fridayFun climb with family  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Dec 22, 2007

Hiked up with the family, to include a 10 and a 6 year old daughter. Even my father climbed it to the shelter below the summit. It was a fun, the weather was overcast, but no rain. Makes my 6 year old daughter's first mountain, along with my older brother's first mountain, with hopefully many more to come.

Wish it was a lot taller. But, still fun.
