Route Climbed: A.T.  Sucess!

We lucked out with the weather for a day in March. Temps were in the high seventies and I was greatly impressed by the peaks in Shenandoah National Park including Stony Man. Gorgeous views over the valley. We saw some Peregrin Falcons as well. Great place!

Great short hike after doing the Doyles River / Jones Run loop earlier in the day. Good views and clear skies.

Quick little hike up top. Kinda concerned when I got up there and it was covered with the undergrowth but then came up on the bluffs and overlook. Good look out towards Mass-of-nothing Mountain and the Shenandoah Valley. The sun also was trying to come out by this time late in the afternoon.

I hiked all over the Shenadoah with my dad and later on with the Outing Club in college.

Stony Man is one of the summits we visited. I hiked most of the AT from Pennsylvania through Virginia.

Trees covered in ice on the summit. Saw a lot of turkeys when driving in on Skyline Dr.

Highest point on the AT in SNP. Calls for a celebration. Too bad all I've got is gorp and powdered hot chocolate. Gloomy and footsore.

I've climbed Stony Man several times. Easy hike up. Nice walk through a decent forest. The peak is a good one with nice views. One of my favorite Shenandoah walks.

Great easy climb, especially early in the a.m. when there are still lots of clouds down in the valley. I try to climb this by myself at ~ 6 a.m. every time we stay at Skyland Lodge for family vacations. It is a very peaceful place. Climbed once with my wife, son and daughter when we stumbled upon a momma Black Bear and her two cubs. Before we could back out of the situation, she fortunately meandered into the fern brush with her babies.
