Subway & lava chockstones

Subway & lava chockstones

This is from a trip through the Subway on June 10, 2003. Notice the often photographed dual chockstones that existed at the time. On a subsequent trip I took through here (August 30, 2004), the water level was higher and the lower rock rotated on me as I was climbing through. Thinking of Aron Ralston's experience, I tried to rotate it until stabilized; however it rotated in a downstream direction and then fell into the water. This info is provided for those of you who wondered whatever happened to the second chockstone.

So You're the One!

I wondered where that other chockstone went!

Re: So You're the One!

Yes, I confess. It really kinda spooked me when that chockstone started rotating. Don't know that I had any choice to do anything other than what I did. To imagine that chockstone falling on, or trapping someone kinda freaked me out.

You are forgiven ...

Back in Arizona. I did the Anniversary
Narrows hike. It was completely dry;
no water at all. The cactus and bearpoppies
were blooming everywhere. Saw one intrepid
man with a backpack and ski-poles headed
off into the Muddy Mountain backcountry.
Other than that, really peaceful. Thanks
for joining up with me in Lake Mead NRA,
and all the votes. Hope you'll be able
to get out and see all of those flowers!

Re: You are forgiven ...

Glad you got to see our southern Nevada desert while it was in bloom. I've only seen Anniversary Narrows running with water once in the half dozen times I've been there. I believe that was 1993 or 1994. The Subway however never disappoints when it comes to having water. Glad you and your wife made it back home safely!
