Summer is the most popular season, on Devils Tower. Expect long lines on the Durrance route, and high temperatures. Most Happy and Successful climbs, in July and August, start around 3:30 a.m. The best strategy is to climb on the West side in the morning and the East side in the afternoon...Photo Courtesy of Devisl Tower Lodge

I guess I lucked out - we climbed Durrance in late May, and no lines. We were up in 3 hrs, and had a nice late start around 10:00 am.
The photo with the moon is beautiful. I missed that view with my late start.
