September 4, 2006 The summit of the Red Cone and the ugly scar left by the road. The road goes from the 12801 ft summit down to the 12580 ft saddle. This is the first very steep part north of the summit.

Summit of Red Cone

Don't think I would want to drive that road. What are the markings to the right of the road?Elli

I said the same thing to a guy who had come to the summit in a Jeep and now had to descend this slope. He laughed and seemed amused that I was scared for him. Said it was no big deal and did descend it.

I think those must be animal trails to the right of the summit. saw a bunch of mountain goats in the area and will add their pictures later.
