in the middle of nowhere  Sucess!

The road is in good condition currently. I made the drive to the TH in a Honda Civic Hybrid with minimal clearance and had no issues beyond taking it easy on the arroyo crossings. One hour and fifty minutes to the highest point via the well designed trail on a windy (and thus dusty) but quite cool day for October. No evidence of border crossers beyond a discarded sleeping bag just off the road a few miles from the campground. No BP spotted either.

Solitary  Sucess!

Clear skies and nice temperatures after rain the previous day. I saw one ATV parked at the trailhead but met only one car on the road and no one on the trail. A high clearance vehicle needed due to deep ruts crossing the roads. Good tires and 4WD also recommended, but the road was dry.

Awesome scenery and views!  Sucess!

Did both the South and the North summit. Beautiful day but a bit hazy. Did not see anybody else all day, no border patrol and no smugglers either.
The road was pretty washed out in places and I would not recommend doing it in a 2wd sedan.

Nice hike  Sucess!

An exposed hike in a relatively remote area. Wouldn't want to be here at night!

Great day  Sucess!

Great views and one of the better Sonoran Desert scenic areas I've seen yet. No Border Patrol encounters - it was very quiet.

Switchbacks  Sucess!

On the way up, the many switchbacks made me think that the trail builders were trying too hard to ease the climb. On the way down, I was grateful for them. Those volcanic stones and chips can make for some treacherous traction. Fun, low-altitude hike to shake off the cold-winter blues!

A mini-epic  Sucess!

We made it on a warm afternoon - high 80s but it felt a lot hotter due to the volcanic rocks that radiate the heat very effectively. My wife turned her ankle and had to go slow. Found an encampment up high below the first summit used by Mexican crossers. Got spooked by a large rattlesnake a few feet from our truck on the hike out. Got stopped twice by the BP on the drive back to the highway. Lots of fun!
