FairweatherThe Trough   Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 7, 1975

1st climb at Tahquitz with Marty & Brian.
Went on to climb nearly all the classics (and most non-classics) within my ability (5.10+) through the late 80's.
A couple of my favorites I did many times, including The Open Book, and El Camino Real.

Lots of great routes here. Whodunit, a 5.9 which is continuously interesting from start to finish, has been my favorite.

zoomlocoamazing history  Sucess!

possibly the most famous summit crag from the glory days of rock climbing. add it to the valley, eldo, the gunks, and you've seen the majority of the history. quite a few excellent moderates on this tremendous little fin of rock, from open book to finger trip to el camino real. btw the local, and more correct, way to pronounce the name is tak-witz, after the indian...

asmrzUp The North-East Rib to get married  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 11, 2011

In the morning of June 11, 2011,Penelope May (now May-Smrz) and I (Alois Smrz) scrambled up the North-East Rib (5.2 or 5.3) of Tahquitz Rock for about the zillioneth time to attend a wedding on top, our own. We met on top of Tahquitz Rock in 1999, have lived in Idyllwild some 10 years now, so the summit was a natural place to get married. 49 fellow climbers, hikers and neighbors joined us on top. Wonderful day, loving friends, unforgetable...

Just saw this- what a great way to tie the knot! Sounds very special. Happy for both of you that you got to do it in such a unique & meaningful way.

Ascended the Southwest Gully to the summit only to arrive in the middle of a wedding ceremony! Hung around for a few minutes then headed back down the same way. Climbed Sam Fink Peak in the morning before this and then climbed Suicide Rock afterwards.

NavySeabeeSW Gully Route  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 21, 2010

Tried the traverse from Tahquitz a few years back and came up empty. Took the W/SW gully route this time and had a very enjoyable climb. Had the summit to myself for about 20 mins. There are some fun class 3 slabs also if you stick closer to the rock.
