Tanya at Vasey's Paradise - Grand Canyon

We hiked down to South Canyon and to the river then back out again in a day... whew! I was tired! This is one of my favorite hikes! It was 80 degrees at the river .... the 1st of March... Yeah! But a storm was brewing on the hike out. Photo by Bo Beck

Tanya...

Most people who attempt this trail are fit
enough to complete it in one day, right?
I know where the House Rock Valley road is
located. Talk about utter isolation. If a person wanted to establish a camp, where would it be located? Buffalo Ranch? Did you happen to see any buffalo? GREAT job in the
completion of this hike - the REWARDS are always great! How cold was the river? Awesome.

Re: Tanya...

I would say you need to be EXTREMELY fit to do this in one day. People camp right at the trailhead to get an early start. Never have seen one buffalo out there! I did cross the water at Vaseys so my feet got a little wet in the spring water, but I never ventured into the river. My guess is just like when I rafted the river through the Grand Canyon at this time last year ---- and was foolish enough to wash my hair and my head froze. ;p

This is actually my 2nd time doing this. Last time we did the standard trailhead and this time the Bedrock or UPS start and I think we did it in December.

It is still in my top 3 of best all time hikes!

Re: me

It really is! I love any route down to the river in the Grand Canyon, but this one is special.
