| TripoliRick | Snow Rescue Class in Death Valley? | |
| I have been up Telescope several times in the past thirty years by different routes, once from near Bad Water (see trip report) and as strange this this may sound, while I was there as a seasonal ranger, we put on a 3-day snow rescue course for rangers in the Mahogany Flats area (I built an igloo there for sleeping in) and climbed Telescope later. Remarkable area. | ||

| Camped the night before at Mahogany Flats, 4 hours up and 3 hours down the next day. Summit was surrounded by clouds so we didn't get to see the awesome view. | ||

| We camped at Mahogany Flats with the wind and did the hike during a little snow storm. It was a very cloudy day but there was no haze and it was pretty cold up high. No other people were seen until we got to the car. | ||

| Quite surprised by the winds and clouds on the way to the summit. High Sierra were engulfed in clouds. Very nice trail and excellent views, but the summit/trail was somewhat crowded. Mahogany Flat CG is quite pleasant. | ||

| Just returned home from a successful hike up Telescope Peak. Hazy day limited the view, but could still see down into Death Valley easily. | ||

| From campsite at Mahogany Flats. Perfect day - still some snow up high. Lots of forest fire smoke obscured view of the Sierra. Awesome desert peak - a favorite. | ||

| I do not remember the exact date. Two guys on the (rather remote) summit were drinking beer and a woman with an enormous hip-pack filled primarily with popcorn was not restraining her flatulence. Later that evening at the campground, a crazed woman intentionally drove her car at high speed down the mountainside and then disappeared from the accident site, thus necessitating the arrival of a search and rescue team. Odd. | ||

| Nice hike, but we didn't make the top. There was more snow than we had anticipated, up to a few feet in places. Hike provides great views of valley, however. | ||

| Way too windy on the ridge past Rogers and Bennett to finish this in one day. Had to snowshoe in about a mile south of Charcoal. | ||

| Fun hike... a nice way to escape the valley heat in May. Was interesting to be melting in 115 deg F temperature at Badwater one day and hiking through snow the next day. | ||

| The first attempt I made on this mountain ended before it even began when I rolled my car on Wildrose Rd. in Death Valley. I wasn't discouraged however, and I returned in June to claim the summit. Easy hike with great desert and mountain views. The bristlecones are a beautiful part of the trip as well! Did this in a three day marathon of mountains, rocks, and driving. Day 1: Mt. Dana in Yosemite, 2: Telescope, 3: Back in YOSE for Half Dome. | ||

| Very Windy and cold day. Great views of the Sierras, Death Valley, the Spring Mountains, and much more. Bagged Bennett and Rogers on the way back and saw an almost Full Moon on the way down from Rogers. | ||

| ryanclear | fairly easy hike Date Climbed: Nov 10, 2007 | |
| we hiked from mahogany flats which is about 14 miles round trip. the beginning is a constant grade that brings you around different traverses and ridges. the wind really started to pick up as the temperature read 40 degrees. you can see the peak from where the rangers station is when you ascend your first 1000 feet. it is very deceptive being that I thought we where going to hike up the backbone of the mountain. Wrong, we went around traverse and ended up hiking up a series of switchbacks. The hike was great though, i started feeling the altitude around 1050 feet. Stopped and rested for a few minutes and then hit the summit. The summit is one of the more beautiful views I have seen. | ||

| Did the peak with Harlan on Saturday. I thought it was a boring hike, but where else can you get 11,000 ft? I prefer the Grand Canyon rim to rim. | ||
