Weird  Sucess!

I do not remember the exact date. Two guys on the (rather remote) summit were drinking beer and a woman with an enormous hip-pack filled primarily with popcorn was not restraining her flatulence. Later that evening at the campground, a crazed woman intentionally drove her car at high speed down the mountainside and then disappeared from the accident site, thus necessitating the arrival of a search and rescue team. Odd.

SNOW

Nice hike, but we didn't make the top. There was more snow than we had anticipated, up to a few feet in places. Hike provides great views of valley, however.

The trail  Sucess!

It would seem everyone climbs this one. Snow on the ground and screaming winds. Fun day with Evan. Trip Report

Winter ascent

Way too windy on the ridge past Rogers and Bennett to finish this in one day. Had to snowshoe in about a mile south of Charcoal.

Dayhike  Sucess!

Fun hike... a nice way to escape the valley heat in May. Was interesting to be melting in 115 deg F temperature at Badwater one day and hiking through snow the next day.

2nd try a success  Sucess!

The first attempt I made on this mountain ended before it even began when I rolled my car on Wildrose Rd. in Death Valley. I wasn't discouraged however, and I returned in June to claim the summit. Easy hike with great desert and mountain views. The bristlecones are a beautiful part of the trip as well!

Did this in a three day marathon of mountains, rocks, and driving. Day 1: Mt. Dana in Yosemite, 2: Telescope, 3: Back in YOSE for Half Dome.

Windy day  Sucess!

Very Windy and cold day. Great views of the Sierras, Death Valley, the Spring Mountains, and much more. Bagged Bennett and Rogers on the way back and saw an almost Full Moon on the way down from Rogers.

fairly easy hike

we hiked from mahogany flats which is about 14 miles round trip. the beginning is a constant grade that brings you around different traverses and ridges. the wind really started to pick up as the temperature read 40 degrees. you can see the peak from where the rangers station is when you ascend your first 1000 feet. it is very deceptive being that I thought we where going to hike up the backbone of the mountain. Wrong, we went around traverse and ended up hiking up a series of switchbacks. The hike was great though, i started feeling the altitude around 1050 feet. Stopped and rested for a few minutes and then hit the summit.

The summit is one of the more beautiful views I have seen.

shorty's->Telescope  Sucess!

First, hats off to those who do the full hike, returning down that miserable talus back to Shorty's. We had a ride waiting at Mahogany; 22 miles and 11500' accumulated was enough.

Second, do the road in the dark so you will pass this tedious part without massive boredom.

Started at the well at ~3:30AM; picked the timing so there was a crescent (almost quarter) moon that rose at 1:30 AM. Got to top ~1:25, back to Mahogany ~3:30PM.

I'll post the map for our route on the ridge-- seemed better than guidebook suggestions, as it was a stable ridge with cairns and a switchbacked pack trail much of the way. I think this is the route suggested by Dave Daly, but I didn't see cairns at the very bottom of the route -- maybe they were washed away -- and we certainly never had the loose crap one sees in the picture of Deb.

For a 1-day "how much gain can I do?" test, I would greatly prefer this to GC rim2rim2rim -- there isn't the beauty, but there also isn't the mule pee/poop, and there aren't hordes of people and digusting outhouses.

Did the trail years ago, after a snowy year. This time (2007) was the first time I'd seen the peak without snow :^(

dayhike from mahogany  Sucess!

made it all the way up to Mahogany Flat in my Honda Accord (which I was immensely grateful for at the end of the day). Perfect weather--sunny and very little wind. Didn't see anyone all day til I was almost back to the trail head on the way down. Brutal switchbacks toward the end; thought they'd never end! :) But overall, great hike and phenomenal views.
