| We started from Avalanche Lake headed for the summit of Granite. We got to the saddle between Granite and Tempest when the conditions got bad so we bailed over to Tempest. After snapping a few photos we returned to the trailhead. All in all a great trip. | ||

| Took the E. Rosebud approach (great trail) to FTD plateau then over FTM mountain. Setup camp at one of the lower shelters at 11640'. Quick boulder hop from the standard route of Granite and nice views. Worth the side trip. | ||

| iceworm | Second Place ![]() Date Climbed: Mar 11, 2008 | |
| settled for second best on our way to Granite. We had 3 consecutive days of amazing weather on the approach...no wonder on the night of the 3rd day we got hit with 35-50mph winds. the following morning the winds were still persistent on our summit push. We made it to the Tempest-Granite saddle by 5:30am only to see darkness consuming the beartooth plateau just to our south west. we scrambled directly from the saddle to the summit of tempest and high tailed it back to the truck, tail between our legs, in one day. Better luck next winter... | ||

| I arrived at Granite high camp right around noon and watched via binocs 2 groups of 3 summit and leave. By the time I walked up to Tempest, I was able to view one of the groups setting up their last rappel above snow bridge. Climbed again 2012-07-01 - 13 hours car to car. I just wanted something easy to take advantage of my free Sunday on a weekend of gorgeous weather. | ||

| We figured that since we got up granite, we might as well tag tempest the same day just for the sake of saying we climbed two peaks in one day. | ||

| We left the West Rosebud Trailhead at 7:30 am and topped out at about 1:30 in the afternoon. After hanging out on the summit and officially deciding we needed to climb Granite the next week, we headed toward the Granite-Tempest saddle, glissaded down Granite Glacier, and headed out Huckleberry Creek. We were back at the trailhead around 8:00. There wasn't a cloud in the sky all day. | ||

| pintlerpro | Route Climbed: Standard from Phantom Creek trailhead Date Climbed: August 14 | |
| We started from the Phantom Creek trailhead at 0500 in the morning. We left the trail and then headed up towards Froze To Deaths Mountain's South East Face by the huge waterfalls, we did the steep snow couloir on the South East Face up to the Ridge and Plataeu, then we stashed our technical gear. My buddy pooped out at 11,800 feet and I went on up the the summit. Made it back to the trailhead 0100 hours. | ||

| This was actually an attempt on Granite Peak but I got altitude sickness along the way and we camped in the middle of FTD Plateau instead of near the saddle of Granite and Tempest. Next morning I was fine but my buddy, Bill, was sick. We hiked to near the saddle but Bill could not go further so he sat while I ran up Tempest. Great views and fun despite not bagging Granite. As I lay at our campsite, a few chipmunks would come and nibble on my arms, apparently mistaking me for dead. :- ) Lots of marmots visited our camp as well and saw many goats on the Plateau. Weather stayed a range over from us until we hiked out so we had our weather window for Granite. Maybe next time. Did enjoy a great hike with a great friend though. | ||
