Voted 10/10 | This is an amazing, otherworldly scene. I can only imagine how great it was in person! | | Posted Nov 13, 2006 12:44 am |

Hasn't voted | Thank you! It is an amazing, otherworldly place. This is just one of many colorful sandstone monoliths in the area. At dawn and sunset, they glow. Adding to the splendor is that the area is very remote.
Thank you for noticing and commenting.

Hasn't voted | Thank you! I hope you get out here someday and see it yourself, just as I hope to see those beautiful mountains you share with us here on SP! | | Posted Feb 5, 2007 12:56 pm |

Hasn't voted | Nice. My wife and I spend a lot of time in Utah.Capital Reef is one of our favorite places to explore. I believe this is "Temple Of The Sun". Did you get a chance to see Glass Mountain? It's in the general area from which this photo was taken. Did you camp at the Plateau? | | Posted Aug 20, 2007 9:23 am |

Hasn't voted | Thank you for looking and commenting. Yes, that is Temple of the Sun, and I have seen Glass Mountain, too-- I have some photos I like, but they don't really need to be here on SP.
I camped higher up on one of my three visits here, but not this one. My brothers and I stayed at the primitive campground near the Cathedral Valley Overlook-- very cold March night, great dawn.
I, too, love Capitol Reef, especially those northern and southern areas you only access by the dirt roads.

Hasn't voted | Thank you-- Cathedral Valley is one of my favorite places in Utah, though I imagine you probably don't need me to tell you about beautiful places in Utah.
I have often examined my pictures of this "rock" and looked at topo maps and tried to envision a way up it. That thing looks ready to fall apart, though. But I'd love to get up it. | | Posted Feb 14, 2008 10:06 am |
