Electric Cables  Sucess!

Incoming TStorm charged the cables and literally provided shocks when you touched them. Hair standing on end at the summit. Freakish moments.

September 2006

Descended after climbing Snake Dike. Insanely crowded ! Hopefully the quota / permits have made this less of a madhouse.

Remember to bring a pair of gloves.

Cables down

Did this as a solo day hike from the valley. There was a lot of snow at the higher elevations and I snowshoed up to the saddle. The ridge was burned off. The cables were down and there was some ice and snow on the final slope. Being by myself, I erred on the conservative side and enjoyed the spectacular views from the saddle. Once above the falls I didn't see another person the whole day.

Fun  Sucess!

Climbed it while on my honeymoon. Was very fun but did get tiring toward the top. It was quite an upper body workout.

Long fun hike  Sucess!

This was a last minute hike so I was unprepared. Although I was tired at the end, it was well worth the pain!

Cables down = better!

Did this one a few days after they "took the cables down" (removed the ladder steps so that just the cables remained), giving it a rappel-like ascent/descent. Way more fun and hardly anyone up there! Looked much steeper than it was.

The Cables  Sucess!

Well worth the effort. We started our hike at Red's Meadow in Mammouth. We hiked the JMT to the Fork in the trail that leads to the cables. We camped out at the fork and started out at 5am. We had the cables all to our selves on the way up and on the way down. There was probally 10 people on the top while we were up there.
On the way down the trail we passed a-lot of people going up to Half Dome. I am glad we camped out and went when we did. The views were awsome, nothing can compare to them.

First long day hike

This was the hike that started it all for me. And what a fun route - the wet steps of the Mist Trail, the uphill dirt from Little Yosemite Valley, the twist of the cables, and the views at the top.

My Introduction  Sucess!

One of the first summits that I did before I advanced to technical climbing and mountaineering. I realized that climbing may be for me as I ascended most of the route without grabbing the cables. I did this to avoid the log jam and get around people. A truely memorable day and the beginning of many, many ascents.
