The Deathtrap

This view is from the end of the trail overlooking the Plain of the Six Glaciers. The pass above is Abbott Pass, where there is a hut often used as a base for climbs of Mount Lefroy and Mount Victoria. The steep, glaciated chute is the Deathtrap, which provides access to the pass without the red tape of the Lake O'Hara area on the other side. The problem is that this avalanche-prone spot has its name for a reason. Banff NP, Alberta-- August 2003
