| After my initially planned long hike was stopped short at Summit Peak because of the blood-drawing flies, I sought a respite on the escarpment above Lake of the Clouds. Maybe a blessing in disguise. Hiking along the escarpment was great! Someday in cooler weather I look forward to exploring the rest of the wonderful Porkies. | |

| What a place! A cold front and 30 mph winds cleared the bugs and made the Lake of the Clouds a jewel. And cleared out the flies! Started at Government Peak trail and went west along the Escarpment, then looped east to Government Peak and came back via a spectacular river. 14 miles of smiles. | |

| done the escarpment many times, and during all seasons...the scenery up there is amazing! | |

Our trip route was as follows: N. Mirror Lake Trail, Little Carp River Trail, Lake Superior Trail and Big Carp River Trail. | |
