The first pitch of the North...

The first pitch of the North Arete. The two roofs brenta speaks of are visible in this photo. The first is behind the tree in the center portion of the photo. The second is just up, left, and beyond the first. From the base of the first roof, a 50M rope will get you to a very nice belay at a saddle, beyond the 2nd roof, at the base of the steep crux pitch. Both of these moves look more intimidating than they are. Taken Sunday, November 06, 2005.

Is it cheating?

We actually climbed down off the arete at this point and walked about 20 feet on the ground to the tree straight ahead where we set up the belay for the first pitch.

Re: Is it cheating?

Naw, I don't think it's cheating. We did the same thing. The climbing from here to there was super easy, but the rope drag would have been insane. Wish we could have joined you guys, but I've got to get that basement done before the baby arrives... only 7 weeks left!
