The Irony of a Fence

The Irony of a Fence

Everytime I hear about a fence along the border with Mexico, I think of this part of that border (even though there are few folks who propose fencing the entire border). Consider: The other side of the river, just past my son, Curtis, who is sitting in Texas, is Mexico. Yes, it's easy to just walk across it (though other spots are much better than here; the two 1500' cliffs of Santa Elena Canyon are just outside the image on both sides!). One of the great things about Big Bend National Park and nearby Big Bend Ranch State Park is the lack of fences for 100s of thousands of acres. It's an incredible wilderness. Imaged in August 2005.
