The Middle Teton

The Middle Teton

In Garnet Canyon. The Middle Teton center page. I think the 'line' traveling vertically up the mountain looked kinda cool. Thanks to Fred Spicker for the name of the peak and the line.

Re: What is

Ejnar,
That line is some sort of dark colored rock that up close almost looks like it was painted on. From a distance however, it looked to me like a giant furrow or ditch.

Middle Teton - Black Dike

The mountain is the Middle Teton

The black rock is a diabase dike.

Dikes are sheet-like or tabular igneous intrusions that cut across sedimentary layering, metamorphic foliation, or other texture of a pre-existing rock.

There is a climbing route directly up the dike - IV 5.6.
