The Mourne Identity

I wasn't aware of this area. It looks like a very pleasant place to hike. Thanks for the geography lesson.

Re: The Mourne Identity

You're quite welcome. I never knew about the Mournes myself until I booked a trip to Belfast for the weekend with some friends. When we found out the Mournes And Donard were nearby,we immediately decided to climb it the day after we arrived. I have to come back someday to hike/climb some more. It's a beautiful place! Cheers

Great page!

The rock seems a kind of sandstone, or maybe granite?

Re: Great page!

Thank you Silvia!
Yes, it's granite. There are a lot of granite outcrops in the area. Also see the section 'Rock climbing'

Great page Lodewijk!

What a beautiful and somewhat haunting place. Those mountains look really old and worn down.

Re: Great page Lodewijk!

Thanks Windsor; Yes I agree. Storm and Rain are common here and you can see it back in the way the landscape looks. The Granite landscape was formed 50 million years ago in the Tertiary period. You can read some more about the Geology here: http://www.devlin-family.com/Mournes.htm
Happy Climbing! Cheers

Re: Great page Lodewijk!

Interesting. Some of the exposed rock in Death Valley has been dated to 1.8 billion. 4.4 bill for the oldest fragment on earth recorded yet.
