My first ascent on a 4000mt peak was this one: Gran Paradiso, north-west wall! We left rif. Chabod at 2.30 a.m. and walked through the Laveciau glacier in a thick fogg: finding the path wasn't easy and we had some problems with crevasses... recent snow had covered the track. The approaching was long and difficult, but when we started climbing the north wall we forgot about it, and went on for endless hours towards the summit, right under the big hanging icefall and then crossing the wall to the left, near the rocks. The summit was covered by clouds again... but the rocky ridge and the glacier seemed like home, after the adventure on the north-west wall! I left my heart and my memories up there: it was wonderful.
