I keep trying to do it again  Sucess!

I was there in 1996 or 1997. Amazing place, but I was too young to truly appreciate it, so I've been meaning to go back. I've had a permit, but then broke my wrist in a mountain biking accident and couldn't get the cast wet. Maybe I'll pull it off this year.

Burrrr Cold  Sucess!

A beautiful day with my wife. Bitter cold. We hitched to the start and had the canyon to ourselves. The water was running crystal clear. What a blast, I'll go back again.

Never grow tired of it  Sucess!

I've done the Subway 10 times of over the past 20 years. It is a beautiful place and I never grow tired of it. I've always done the standard route from the top down. I probably won't ever do the bottom up. I may try the "Das Boot" route sometime, but I hear that REQUIRES a wetsuit and having taken a wetsuit three or four times on the regular route, I prefer not having to take one if I can help it.

11th time - October 29, 2014 - hiked down into Left Fork from the base of North Guardian Angel with CP, AA, Tom Jones & Jacob Snow. After doing a side hike to the top of South Guardian Angel and back, we then went on down through the Subway - it was remarkably not too cold (we had wetsuits) for the end of October.

12th time - September 19, 2017 hiked standard top down route with Mo Jadid & his son Manhal. Perfect weather and temperature (no wet suits so water was a bit cold). Took us 6.5 hours from Wildcat TH to Left Fork TH

Re: Never grow tired of it

Yes, its down right COLD in Das Boot. You need a nice big thick one for this route too.... or just rent a dry suit. Nice and light and since its a rental you won't mind the damage all the rock in that canyon will do to it.... Just don't tell the rental shop guys I said that. ;)

Most beautiful canyon in the world  Sucess!

Most recent time was June 16 2013.

I have seen a lot of the world, but I have never seen a canyon as beautiful as this one for scenery per mile beauty. As far as places in the world, the only place that I have found that can equal it's beauty is the Annapurna Sanctuary, but it's a completely different kind of beauty. I have been there several times dating back to when I was a kid to last year, but will go again and again.

Incredible and Unforgettable

I've done the Subway several times. Never a let-down. The only bummer on the entire route is the slog back out to the Left Fork Trailhead.

5/18/08 - 4th time, with DB and Harlan
