This is the steepest part of the climb up the Silver Star Glacier and may well initiate the highest pucker factor for the day. You can see the trail. Well, the traverse over to the saddle with the mid-sized schrund below gets your attention--especially if you've not brought ice-axes like us. Crampons could be handy here too but we didn't use them (okay, we didn't have them). July 27, 1997.
