Thorodin Mountain  Sucess!

Took an off-trail route up from the south - caught the cairn-marked trail coming back down.

As Willie Nelson said...  Sucess!

On Thorodin again….just can't wait to get on Thorodin again…

The other guy put it best. Easy bushwhack. I went to the Harmsen home site area. On your way up the driveway to the ranch style home, a trail sign invites you onto a grass path heading North-ish (on your left). After 150 yards, the trail moves into a group of trees. Look on your right while in the trees and you will see a faint path that heads East, or right. It starts faint but gets better than almost turns into some kind of old terrible road. It keeps ascending the slope and maybe at 3/4-1 mile, it ends at a number of cairns. Follow those cairns all the way to the Thorodin Summit.

A fun hike with Peakbug that provided some great views from the summit. The weather was near perfect as well.

5.5 climb  Sucess!

Sweet 5.5 climb but very short and easy. Not worth it for the long approach though if you just plan to do one climb.

From Gap Road with Starr  Sucess!

It was friggin' COLD today. Single digit temps, snowfall, frozen eyelashes, the whole nine yards. Pretty, rocky little mountain. Enjoyed beers and dinner afterward.

Cold day.  Sucess!

Three of us started from small parking lot on Gap Road, we bushwhacked all the way to the top, it was cold day but luckly no wind. Nice little summit, snowy day, no much of views.

Thorodin - Starr - Sheepshead  Sucess!

Hiked all three peaks from Gap Road in Golden Gate Canyon State Park with my girlfriend Meghan. I carried snowshoes but never put them on. What snow did exist was frozen solid and easy to walk on due to our 7:42am start. There was absolutely no wind at the summit. This was a great hike that provided fantastic views of the entire Front Range. If you want a small sample of the kind of views you get at the summit, visit Panorama Point in Golden Gate Canyon State Park (then imagine being 1300 feet higher).

A favorite hike long ago...  Sucess!

This mountain was always my favorite hike during my earlier years in Colorado. We bushwhacked from the west and preferred to do most of our climbing on the center buttress. I went up nearby Tremont Mountain with my kids in 1992. Wish we had done Thorodin instead.
