Though it looks like this picture doesn't show much, for reference it is important. The deep canyon of Torrent Creek can be seen here. It is this canyon, among other things, that makes a climb of Elephant Butte impractical from the overgrowing Stetattle Creek Trail. Access to Elephant Butte from Stetattle Ridge goes through the fault-line notch at right. It's quite a descent to get into that notch. The Elephant's head is cropped in this photo. May 16, 1998.
