Tiger Leaping Gorge, Yunnan

Tiger Leaping Gorge is a contender for the world's deepest river canyon, depending on the exact definition used. Around 15 km in length and 2000m deep, the gorge is formed where the river passes between Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yilong Shan)(5590m) and Haba Mountain (Haba Shan)(5590m). Legend says that in order to escape from a hunter, a tiger jumped across the river at the narrowest point (25m wide), hence the name.
