Timp's Famed Cornice

Timp's Famed Cornice

Miro and I had just skied from the top (came down skier's left of the group of people...our tracks are visible) when I had just had to snap this pic of hikers making appropriate use of the garbage bags they had brought up with them. I think "garbage bag sledding" is a rite of passage on the icefield. Normally, the summit is accessed from the north and a loop is made south of the summit to the top of the icefield and then back down. We had camped out near the Emerald Lake shelter and used the icefield for both directions as the top of the cornice made a convenient place to stash our gear for the summit bid. August 2, 1997. As a side note, this ski trip allowed me to ski 22 consecutive months. Perhaps not a lot for some, but it is my record.
