| EastKing | True summit and lookout ![]() Date Climbed: Sep 24, 2011 | |
| Trail up to the Lookout was easy and relaxing. I will take BearQueen there in the near future. The bootpath from the lookout to the true summit could best be described as faint and exposed. Still a walk up but you should have some comfort with exposure. That being said the true summit has BY FAR the better views!! | ||

| Did it way back when.. 24 years ago? Ipsut Creek CG was accessible back then, and it was always a fun hike over Ipsut Pass. I also did Florence Peak from the Boundary Trail in winter. | ||

| gimpilator | 4 Peaks On Winter Solstice ![]() Date Climbed: Dec 21, 2010 | |
| Bryan, Maria and I did 4 peaks today via the old Boundary Trail. We started with Virginia Peak and Berry Peak. Then we worked out way over to the Tolmie Peak lookout and actual summit. Finally we came all the way back to do Martin Peak before descending. Not bad for the shortest day of the year. A film by Bryan: | ||

| I think I was climbing here on Prom Night of High School, climbing was always more important. We snowshoed in from the Mowich park entrance, camped on the rangers front porch at Mowich Lake to avoid the snow, climbed the peak, droped out at Ipsut Pass, camped at Ipsut Creek Campground, hiked the road out to the closed gate at the Carbon River Entrance where we were picked up. | awilsondc | Route Climbec: Mowich Lake --> Eunice Lake ![]() Date Climbed: Aug 16, 2009 | |
| Crowded day at the Mowich Lake trailhead. It was a fee free weekend in the national parks and cars were lined up 1/2 a mile or more down the road from the parking lot. Not as many on the Tolmie trail though... Nice little moderate hike to the summit. Clouds were covering Rainier but it made for a nice sea of clouds view of the other surrounding peaks. I scrambled around past the lookout to the true summit, and played around glissading on some remaining snow and climbing some rocks. I found a nice cliff to hang out on with amazing views of a beautiful valley. Very rewarding to head past the lookout, actually got some solitude. I'll have to head back. It was nice. | ||

| Warm up for Mt Baker on the 16th. Although I have been up this peak 4 times, I still haven't gotten a view from the top. We still had a good time in the warm weather. | ||

| Very nice clear day. Good view of the n/w side of Rainer. Mt. St. Helen's was letting off a little steam, which was a bonus photo. | ||

| I've climbed this peak three times but the last time was the most memorable. I came up from Ipsut Pass, which is a fairly steep and streneous pass, and then headen on up to Eunice Lake. Eunice Lake is my favorite lake in Rainier National Park and the views are awesome! From there it's about 700 feet to the summit of Tolmie Peak. The view increased and at the top a spectacular view of Rainier awaited me! To the northwest of Rainer Mother Mountain and Castle Peak's buttresses arose from the Ipsut Creek Valley. Mowich lake was draped in mountains to the west and south of Eunice Lake. Great views! Great times! Tolmie is easy from Mowich Lake but from Ipsut campground it's much more a hiking challenge. | ||

| Got to trailhead real late (noon) after driving around from our camp at the Ipsut Campground. Gradually the trail gains and loses elevation for the first 1.5 miles as you go around Mowich Lake then head down then up some steep switchbacks to Eunice Lake. The lake is pretty awesome, and some hikers got the urge to go swimming, but I opted for some filtered water instead. Some quick steep switchbacks gets you to the lookout pretty darn quickly. The views were magnificent, and I wish I had a better quality digital camera. We decided to go across the ridge on the climbers trail that hit the true summit of Tolmie Peak, then hit thelast peak of the 3 at the end. Alison stopped at the notch as you had to descend a steep trail towards the notch that has lots of loose talus and sand on granite slabs. Once at the notch a bush belay is necessary and a weird move over a few boulders and trees that protect that notch where there is some good exposure. Once at the base of the last summit, a quick staircase of granite takes you to the summit. Unaware if this peak has a name. There is a picture of it in the photo gallery HERE | ||
