Tom beginning the Molar Traverse on Sargents Ridge

January 10, 2010 - Tom beginning what we dubbed "The Molar Traverse", below "The Molar", just below Shastarama Point. To our surprise, the slopes were just over 50 degrees and composed of an awkward, thin wind slab on top of shallow snow. This made kick-stepping hard, and self arrest before hitting cliffs below unlikely. The slopes weren't as steep lower on the slope, so I'd recommend that line next time.

Deja vue, care required!

Pretty greasy in the late afternoon sun too if it's like Casaval Ridge.
