Area of Access:

The Wheeler Creek Trailhead is used to access the southern portions of the Jewel Basin.

Getting There:

Travel south along the Westside road of Hungry Horse Reservoir from Hungry Horse passing over Hungry Horse Dam to the end of the pavement (16 miles) and continue until reaching the Wheeler Creek road (FS #895F). Turn right and drive to gated road. It is another mile up this road to the trail #64 and another mile or so to the boundary of the Jewel Basin.

Trails Access from Wheeler Creek Trailhead:

Trail # 7 with access to Big Hawk Lakes, Pilgrim Lakes, Three Eagles Lakes, Blackfoot Lake and Picnic Lakes. These trails will also put in close proximity to the peaks associated with those lakes.

Trail #772 which is a spur trail leading to Big Hawk Lakes.
