Overview

Ice climbing close to the trailhead

Planjava N

There are various parking possibilities along the 7 km long asfalted road leading up the Logar valley (Logarska dolina).
This road leaves the 428, due SSW at Sestre Logar, E of Solcava (see the Getting There section below).

By following the road to its end (often not possible in winter) one arrives to a proper parking lot (no extra fee).

More than 2km after Sestre Logar, we reach a first guest house and hotel (Plesnik) to the left, and an other one 1 km further (Na Razpotju). Again one km further we will find the Dom Planincev (bus stop, and a trailhead hut which is open only upon reservation (groups), but serves food and drinks in the summer months).
In winter the snow will allmost certainly be cleared this far, and parking is possible around Plesnik and Na Razpotju, permitting close by Ice Climbing.
Both marked and secured mountain-hiking routes (summer) for the Koca na Klemenci jami pod Ojstrico Hut (1 hour), leave respectively from Na Razpotju and from Dom Planincev.
The road continues for 3km after Dom Planincev, passing below the awesome Planjava N face (unseen due to trees, and approacable from the curve 1 km before road's end).
At the dead end there is a free parking lot, a bus stop, and two smaller huts serving drinks and food. From here, two marked and secured mountain hiking paths lead to the Frischaufov Dom na Okreslju hut (1 hour). The easiest (and most common) one passes below the famous Rinka waterfall (which exceptionally entirely freezes) half way up to the hut. A touristic service, Orlovo gnezdo (eagle's nest, drinks in the summertime) is to be found by the waterfall. The Savinja source is above the waterfall, close to were both paths meet and continue towards the hut. Frischaufov dom na Okreslju is open on nice weekends in the wintertime, and a trail is tread, permitting then skiing and mountaineering.

Getting There

From the S (E)

By using the map link in the primary info (diminish or enlarge), spot Celje.
Leave the autoroute A1 (also called E57) at Sentrupert/Braslovce, W of Celje.
Now follow the road signalization for Logarska Dolina and Mozirje (road 225).

It is the Savinja upper course which we are now following. The Savinja is a left bank affluent to Sava.
All along the road 225 there are front range mounts, mostly forest covered (left & right hand, see the Menina and the Raduha Groups on the range page)

At Radmirje the 225 splits westwards, and it is now the 428 which continues upstream along the Savinja (in any case, follow the sign posts for Logarska Dolina).
Upstream of Luce (also a trailhead, camping), the bank slopes become steeper and the road enters picturesque gorges.
Further we pass by the Robanov Kot Trailhead (left hand) before arriving to the larger village of Solcava.

Solcava is itself a trailhead for many beautiful hikes and climbs in the Raduha Group (see the range page).
For some time, part of the Ice Climbing world championship would be held in Solcava.

Ca. 3 km after Solcava, at the Sestre Logar ranch, sign posts for Logarska Dolina guide us left hand, off the 428, and we soon meet the toll hutlet.
The 428 continues towards the Austria/Slovenia border, first passing the Matkov Kot valley trailhead (lefthand).

Bus Info
Buses come in to Solcava from Celje (via Luce), mon-fri (one of them even goes as far as Planinski Dom, a trailhead hut which is conditionally open).
In the bus info search, enter Celje or Luce as a departure, and Solcava (or even "Logarska dolina planinski dom") as a destination.

In the summer and only on sundays, a line drives from Kamnik to the end of the road in the Logar valley, leaving Kamnik at 7AM, reaching Logarska at 9AM (return ride at 5PM).
Kamnik may be spotted on the map (S of the range) and easily rejoined from Ljubljana, the capital city, also by bus.
In the bus info search, enter Kamnik as a departure and "Logarska dolina slap" as a destination.

From the N

By using the map link in the primary info (diminish or enlarge), spot Voelkermarkt, E of Klagenfurt.
Get off the autoroute at Voelkermarkt and head S towards Eisenkappel along road 82.
Between Eisenkappel and Bad Vellach, a road signposted Slovenia, Paulitschsattel splits lefthand, soon passing the Vellacher Kotschna trailhead, and climbing to the border at Pavlicevo sedlo (while the road 82 continues towards Bad Vellach and the Seeberg Sattel border houses).
After the Pavlicevo Sattel border houses at the pass, the road (now called 428), winds down towards Solcava.
We first reach the Matkov Kot valley trailhead (to the right) and then soon the meadows of the Sestre Logar ranch.
At this point we enter the Logar valley (Logarska Dolina), righthand along an asfalted road, and we soon meet the toll hutlet.

There are buses to Eisenkappel, from Klagenkurt and from Voelkermarkt.

Red Tape

Unless expressly signalized (barrier, signpost), and upon your own responsibility, macadamized roads are allowed and visible on maps (these roads are mainly maintained for lumbering and hut cable station access purposes).
Fishing & hunting is regulated.
Wild camping and open fires are not allowed.
The Kamnik-Savinja Alps are part of the Natura 2000 program.
A fee is collected at the entrance of the valley, close to Sestre Logar, 734m (the Logar sisters ranch). This fee (late spring, summer, early autumn, during the day time, reasonable) goes for the maintaining of the valley (in the nature/landscape preservation program if I'm not mistaken).
This tick link to the SP Forum is useful.
