Tree Art #2
I'm sure someone who knows something about botany could explain the creation of these marks, but I thought they bore some resemblance to many of the petroglyphs I have seen in Utah.

This log was along the Hazel Mountain Trail.

Shenandoah National Park, VA-- February 2007.

The larvae of wood-boring bark beetles! Arizona has tons of them in the pine forests. Nice picture, but you need some more "red-hued" rocks in your pictures. Are you coming out to the Mojave desert? Awesome. -LARRY

Thank you for the information. And yes, I do need some red rock in my pictures. Fortunately, my wife and I will be in Death Valley and Zion in less that two weeks, so I can get my fix! We're also considering moving out to AZ or UT next year or the following one-- looking most closely at Apache Junction and St. George right now.

As you know, the housing market bottomed out in Maricopa County. Washington County in Utah and Clark County in Nevada are the fastest growing in the nation. Scenery wise, St. George appears to be the best location. It's the best of both worlds ... desert and mountains. Best of luck, Bob!
