Probably the most memorable ski day of my life.
Having camped at the base of the NW Face, we headed for the summit at around 3:30am. The conditions were ideal, we were sinking just our feet into the 45-50° face the whole way. Swapping leads was easy whithout a rope, and we made it to the summit in less than 4 hours.
Time to eat drink and put our skis on.
I wanted to ski down from the very top of the NW Face so we had to get over to the Valsorey summit of the Grand Combin. Looking down the face the snow looked ok so we slowly started to precariousely let our skis take us down the mountain. Once we did our first turns everything seemed easier. Many many turns later we jumped the bergschrund and came to an easy stop beside our tent.
I hope it will come into condition again someday.
