We reached the top of Chair Two and Backcountry was closed. Unfazed by the closure my father and I spoke with a Alpental Ski Patrol men and soon after we were granted permision, under the criteria we did not make a spectacle while we crossed the rope boundry. After entering the backcountry and having travered as far as we could, me, my brother Rory(age 10), my father Casey, and our new friend Peter, began the long traverse acrossed Sharon Bowl. The snow was very soft and quite deep so the going was slow, and visibility was limited by low clouds. After reaching the edge of the bowl we began climbing up towards the summit. There are two near vertical pitches that must be climbed to reach the summit ridge, and both these pitches were full of snow and proved to be rather precarious in snowboard boots. Rory, on the other hand, had no problem climbing the near vertical pitches in his ski boots and waited quite contently at the top of both pitches, watching us snoboarders struggle up the climb. After reaching the summit ridge, it was a nice easy climb to the summit were we sat and ate lunch. The clouds were breaking up slightly and we were able to hear climbers talking on the Tooth. After lunch, the clouds cleared considerably and we were able to get a great view of Guye Peak to NE and Mt. Rainer to the south. Overall the climb was very enjoyable, and the decent on skis/snowboards was fantastic. Hopefully the pictures will be developing soon.
