We (my wife and myself) started in Nesselwangle/Tannheimer Tal at about 9 am. Following the main ascend (path No.412) to Gimpel house, a in bright sunshine up to the peak of Rote Flueh 2111 Hm (height difference: approx. 950 m), which we reached at 11.30 am. The last 150 m are secured by steel ropes, rather easy, when experienced. After a break of 1.5 h we descended on the hiking trail (I) over the west ridge toward the so-called "Friedberger Klettersteig" (Friedberger ferrata), which we reached at 2pm. Moderate difficulty, mostly easy, two slightly more difficult parts, especially for shorter people (like my darling... ;) ) Helmet and harness obligatory (in my opinion) due to rather instable rocky underground, second because of rather exposed area, a south wall of about 400-450m in free fall... but, to put it like Doug Addams: ....don´t panic! when properly secured, it´s more fun than sport. The Friedberger Klettersteig is rather short (150 Hm) and reaches the peak of the Schartschrofen 1973 Hm. We enjoyed the panorama from 2.45 to 3.15 pm and descended on path No. 413 to Haller an back to the parking lot, which we reached at 5.30 pm, not walking very fast - I know - but, why hurry?? In summary, nice´n´easy tour, not suitable for very beginners, but lots of fun for hikers with a little experience!
