Hiked up to the lunch counter on a Thursday (really pays to beat the crowds!). It was very windy up there and continued to be windy well into the night making for a minature dust storm in the tent which was kind of nasty. Winds were probably 50-60 mph with gusts even stronger.
We had planned for an alpine start but didn't get on the trail until 6:00 am because we couldn't adequately prepare because of the wind the night before. It was perfectly calm when we set out Friday morning up the frustrating scree slope. Not the best time of year on Mt Adams as far as I am concerned. We would have enjoyed more snow. It was very windy again up on Piker's Peak and further on up to the summit. Nice and cold up there as well. We hiked back down to the Lunch Counter were we spent the night again. We could have made it all the way down to the car but I was more than happy to stay an extra night and take it easy.
We have been up there 3 times and June has been the prettiest. Of course you have a much longer approach hike that time of year from Morrison Horse Camp. Any time of year is fun but we were really glad that we broke the climb up into 3 days this time. Unless you are really tough you may want to break it up as well.
