Mike and myself did this (50 classics climb) this 4th of July weekend. Hiked up to the beautiful Ingalls lake, up past the start to the west ridge, and over to goat pass. From here you get obvious views across to the entrance couloir to the north ridge. The entrance to the couloir is interesting and where I took a frightfull pitch off and into a perfect 10 landing above a moat. 10 feet before and it would have taken a month of Sundays to reach the bottom! Glad to reach the bivvy spots (two) at the top of this without anymore incidents.
The night was awesome but a tad windy and chilly but not to bad if you stayed down with the rock walls surrounding you. In the middle of the night twice I heard something calve off somewhere and shook the whole damn MT. Dawn brought even more wind, cold and now foggy conditions. We ducked back in for a couple more hours and the weather broke. Yeehaw lets climb some rock!! What followed was many pitches where we swung leads. The rock was unreal granite and nothing more than 5.8 BUT cool exposure. The crux coming below the gendarme and going across the wet, icy, slab. Ran into a team of 2 that I knew and zipped past us going light and fast and a one day push. After this pitch soloed to the summit on 3rd-4th class
The summit was awesome and always a pleasure to run into other WAC members. There trip report will follow I would imagine and they came up the very cool west ridge. Signed into the register and headed down for the lonnggggg slog down, then up then down again. Did I mention the way out is longgggggg. But well worth it and highly recomend this trip. photo's here
