The trail up Mt. Thielsen is pretty straight forward. If, however, you are using the Smoot book, be advised that the distance to the PCT is four miles. Not a big problem, just expect a little longer approach on an easy trail.

When we broke out of the trees the real fun began. There was a small amount of 2-3 class scrambling that was fun. As we neared the summit horn it looked more intimidating.

Finally, below the summit horn the real fun of the climb begins. The climb "straight" up looks impossible at first. The route is not clear. In fact, we looked around awhile, but then it became pretty clear. Here the climb is 3-4 class and quite fun. There is some nice exposure on the north side and the summit is one of those truly nice small points in the sky.

The day was sunny and warm and the many downclimbers were friendly--a rarity on our Cascades trip (the friendliness of strangers that is).
